Social and Emotional Development:
Guiding Goals for Our Little Sailors
We believe wholeheartedly that our classroom management practices shape the social and emotional milestones of our young students. For this reason, we collaborate closely with parents to ensure that our students establish positive self-confidence. Here at Creative Corner we encourage students to self-direct through ample oppurtunties to problem solve and take others point of view; and in so doing, our students increase their capacity for appreciation and cordiality. Our classroom environment encourages students to gain independence in choices and decision making.
Components that help our young students flourish in social and emotional development:
*We implement a predictable and daily schedule to help children develop a sense of time and anticipate appropriately to regular events throughout the course of the day.
*We provide children with opportunities to interact with peers and to participate in cooperative learning experiences.
* We establish an environment where children can nurture a sense of initiative. This environment encourages students to use toys, equipment, and creative materials. These learning materials are engaging and support decision making, sharing and cooperation among our students.
"To stimulate life-leaving it free to develop, to unfold-here in lies the first task of the educator."
Maria Montessori
Enhancing Physical and Motor Development:
Leaps and Bounds for a Healthy Childhood
At Creative Corner one of our most important goals is for our students to move and be active in many different ways as a means to reach their full physical development. We provide a variety of experiences that continuously assist them with motor development. Creative Corner provides a safe, hygienic, and healthy environment with ample opportunities for physical activities, play, music and movement, food, drink, rest, and sleep. We ensure our student's safety with detailed rules of supervision:
* We encourage children to develop large muscle and gross motor skills. Our playground equipment and physical activities help students increase upper and lower body strength and coordination.
* We help students develop fine motor skills through a variety of hand-eye coordination activities such as using pencil, crayons, scissors, stringing beads and doing puzzles.

"Little children are not logical-they are motor. To give a child joy, give him something to do."
